Motors | Jaguar F-Type

On the 4th April Jaguar announced it is to bring an all-new sports car into production with the Jaguar F-Type. Speaking at the New York Auto Show, Adrian Hallmark, Global Brand Director said “That car will be called the F-TYPE, and it will be unveiled in production form later this year. The core appeal of Jaguar’s cars is their sporting heart, and that heart will beat stronger than ever before in the F-TYPE. Its development is a vivid representation of the confidence and ambition of the Jaguar brand, and the desire amongst our engineers and design team to produce a world-leader in a market segment that we have been absent from for too long. But no longer – the F-TYPE is coming.”

The F-Type will be a convertible 2 seater with a range of petrol models and offer everything a sports car fanatic could want.
Ian Callum, Director of Design, said: “A true sports car needs to be pure in both its purpose and its form; to have the opportunity to produce such a car for Jaguar has been a privilege both for myself and for my team. The C-type, D-type and E-type Jaguars were all sports cars that held true to this principle in their era, and the F-TYPE will hold true to that same principle in its time, a time that is soon to arrive.”

The F-TYPE will join Jaguar’s existing range of cars – the XF saloon and Sportbrake, XJ saloon and XK coupe/convertible. Full F-TYPE technical and range details will be announced later in 2012. It will go on sale in mid 2013.

Gadgets | Google Project Glass

Google recently released details of something pretty awesome, Project Glass. The funky looking gadget features a semi transparent screen attached to a pair of “glasses” and includes a microphone for vocal commands and no doubt to make phone calls. The gadget would use augmented reality and GPS to display maps, public information, saved items such as meetings and other important dates and could even show your social networking accounts, there’s also a built in camera for taking photos.
Here is a little more information from their Google+ page.

“We think technology should work for you—to be there when you need it and get out of your way when you don’t.

A group of us from Google[x] started Project Glass to build this kind of technology, one that helps you explore and share your world, putting you back in the moment. We’re sharing this information now because we want to start a conversation and learn from your valuable input. So we took a few design photos to show what this technology could look like and created a video to demonstrate what it might enable you to do.

Please follow along as we share some of our ideas and stories. We’d love to hear yours, too. What would you like to see from Project Glass? ”

There’s also a promotional video showing how the glasses would work, see it here!

Sport | Sofanatics

There’s a website that’s gaining in popularity around the world and it brings sports fans together in one place to cheer on their team and engage in some (usually) friendly banter.
This website is called Sofanatics and its creators have taken it from a little football website to a huge success and it’s only going to get bigger and better.
We spoke to Sami Kuusela of Sofanatics to find out what all the fuss was about.

Hi Sami, for those that dont know, what is Sofanatics?
We’ve been many things. We started as a multiuser video chat room, then we were quite traditional chat service but about a year ago we finally hit the sweet spot and created something unique: the stadium user interface. So we are a virtual stadium for sports fans.

All the time we’ve been solving the same problem: watching sports alone is lame. It feels really odd to scream alone when your favorite club scores when you don’t have any mates next to you.
We still have the same tagline we’ve had from the beginning: You’ll Never Watch Alone.

and who is the website aimed at?
To all fanatic sports lovers who like to meet other crazy fans from all over the planet.

What is the best thing about Sofanatics?
I think the best thing is the community. There can be fans supporting the same team from 25 different countries during a single match, they just share the excitement and meet like minded fans and make new friends.

What else can people do on sofanatics?
We focus mainly on the match time. During the matches the service is busy and the fans can jump, cry, join the shouts of other fans – do almost everything they could do on the real stadium too.

We also give points to fans. The more active you are, the more points you get. The greatest fans become Fan Captains. You have a reason to be active. Every point you gain, is also added to your team’s points!

What has been your most favourite moment so far?
For me personally I think it was when Finland won the Ice Hockey World Championship last spring. I flipped. Our servers were having hard times with the crazy Finns jumping and typing like total nutcases.

Maybe a bigger moment for most was the Champions League Final last spring between our partner FC Barcelona and Manchester United. We had thousands of fans from all over the globe logging in. It was crazy!

What are the future plans for Sofanatics?
The biggest thing is that we’re about to release a mobile app for the Euro Cup. After that you’ll really NEVER need to watch alone!

Thanks for the chat Sami! Sofanatics is free to everyone, simply log in with your facebook account and start supporting your team! – www.sofanatics.com
